Every figure on this site is a planning estimate built by the method described on our How We Estimate page. It is not a quote, a bid, an offer or a contract price, and it is not professional advice about your specific home. Actual prices vary with condition, access, local labour markets, materials choices and code requirements. Always obtain quotes from qualified local contractors for the actual work before committing to a project, and verify permit and code requirements with your local authority.

Accuracy and updates

We build every figure from published sources and re-check our guides quarterly, dating each page with its last check. Costs change, sources are revised, and errors can survive a check, so no figure here is warranted to be current or correct for your situation at the moment you read it. Confirmed errors reported through our contact page are corrected and re-dated when verified.

No professional relationship

Reading this site creates no contractor, engineering, architectural, financial or other professional relationship. For structural, electrical, gas, roofing or other safety-relevant work, use licensed professionals and follow local code; several of our guides say so explicitly, and the point applies everywhere.

Our content

You may quote HomeCostOwl figures and text with attribution and a link to the page you took them from, that kind of citation is exactly what the site is published for. Republishing whole pages, scraping the site at scale, or presenting our estimates as your own work is not permitted.
